ABOUT PIMPERNEL
Founded by Norwich-based painter Claire Oxley, The Pimpernel Gallery grew out of more than thirty years immersed in art - as both an educator and a practising artist. The idea was simple: to create a space that shows exceptional contemporary works chosen for their beauty, originality, and aesthetic excellence. Each piece has been selected for its craftsmanship, and visual strength, whatever the medium - art that feels fresh and distinctive, yet timeless in appeal.

Teddy Salad
Born in East London in 1961, Teddy Salad was a fishmonger until a critical illness forced a change in direction. His rehabilitation included walks along the beach and he began to collect driftwood. These pieces were configured and painted on, alongside other objects that were found on the beach.

About the Piece
Salad writes about this sculpture: by virtue of the shapes and layout of these pieces of wood, it seemed fitting for outstretched arms, elongated faces, feet and fingers to be strewn across from top to bottom. Also, I had a beloved old Aunt who had the best bed hair you could ever wish to achieve!
